Professional work attire has changed over the years. As more professionals find themselves working remotely, business suits are remaining in the closet more often, which means ties are not seeing the light of day as they once did.
That being said, many men are replacing the bow tie with a necktie when it comes to formal attire. The necktie is not dead yet! So, it is worth sharing the importance of keeping your neckties looking pristine.
There are two methods for washing neckties, which are hand washing or dry cleaning. We always recommend checking the care label and when in doubt dry cleaning is your best option.
Fill your sink or a basin with luke warm water and add a little mild detergent. Immerse the tie in the water and gently scrub the fabric with your hands. Rinse the tie with clean water and gently remove excess water. Place the tie on a hanger or drape over a clothing rod to dry.
Your local dry cleaner will be able to ensure your neckties remain stain free and maintain their shape. Cleaning time generally ranges from 1-2 days depending on your dry cleaners schedule.
One mistake when cleaning neckties at home is ironing your neckties. Ironing can damage the shape of your tie. Steam is a much better choice for ensuring the shape of your tie remains intact.
