New Year’s Eve is often a time of joy and celebration. Brining family and friends together for a New Year’s Eve party can be an exciting way to ring in the new year. However, spills, spots and stains are commonly found after the party goers have gone home and you are working to get your home back in tip top shape.
There are different treatments for different types of stains. Let’s run through some of the most common party stains. Remember, if care labels recommend dry cleaning. Trust your care label. Collegiate Cleaners has been handling post party clean up for over 75 years.
Red Wine Stains
Red wine stains can quickly seep into fabric making removal challenging. Mix a solution of hydrogen peroxide and dishwashing liquid soap and test in a small inconspicuous area. If safe, pour the mixture onto the stain and let it sit. You want the stain to disappear. Add more mixture as needed until the stain is gone and then wash as usual.
Beer and Liquor Stains
Start by blotting any excess liquid with a clean cloth. Use warm water and a small amount of gentle dish soap. Dip your cloth in the solution and gently dab the stained area. Be sure to work from the outer edges toward the inside of the stain to help prevent spreading the stain. Also, avoid rubbing vigorously as you do not want to damage the material. As you rub, the stain should become less visible. Repeat as needed and then rinse and allow to air dry. You can then wash as usual.
Queso, Salsa, Dips and Chocolate Stains
Dips and sauces are notorious for penetrating deep into fibers making stains difficult to remove completely. Start by removing any excess sauce or dip with a blunt knife. Mix a solution of cold water and dish soap and gently blot the stain. Do not rub vigorously as this may damage the material. Work from the outside edges of the stain towards the center. Rinse and pat dry.
