As we are preparing for the Thanksgiving holiday meal, how can we not think about fresh piping hot dinner rolls with melted butter? Or, envision that perfect pat of butter that slowly melts down the sides of your recently mashed potatoes.
What we don’t want to think about is butter on our Thanksgiving garments or linens. There are a few simple DIY steps you can take to effectively remove a butter stain. Before you get started, be sure to check the manufacturers care label. Drop-off items requiring dry cleaning with us; or, we offer complimentary pick up at your home or office.
• Treat stains immediately.
• Scrape off any excess butter with a dull knife moving towards the center of the stain. You do not want to extend the stain further by scraping outward.
• Sprinkle the stain with baking soda and gently rub in to the stain. Let it sit for about 15 minutes to absorb oils from the butter.
• Mix warm water and dish soap (Dawn or something similar should do the trick.) creating a thick solution and spread over stained area.
• Let sit for approximately 30 minutes.
• Wash with hottest water recommended by the garment or linen manufacturer.
• Check to ensure your stain has been removed before placing in the dryer. If stain still exists, repeat steps until the stain has been removed. Or bring your stains to the stain specialists.
