Is Thanksgiving synonymous with table linen stains? As families gather, so does the inevitability of stains. Butter, gravy, wine and cranberry sauce all come to mind when envisioning a Thanksgiving feast. So, let’s talk cranberries and cranberry stains.
Cranberries are native to North America. Raised on a fruit and vegetable farm in Northern America, intrigue for fruits and vegetables runs through the veins. Interestingly, cranberries can also be used as fabric dyes. So, it is no wonder one may cringe when thinking of cranberries covering white tablecloth linens.
When treating cranberry sauce spots and stains, don’t forget to check the manufacturers label for any special care instructions. Your dry clean only labeled linens are meant to be dry cleaned. Don’t risk damage to your fine linens. Remove any solids remaining on the table linen and bring it to a Dry Cleaner like Collegiate Cleaners.
DIY Guide:
- Treat the stain as soon as possible. The less time that elapses, the more success you will have.
- Use a dull knife to carefully remove an excess sauce.
- Use a white cloth. When treating a table linen stain, we recommend using a white cloth. This helps avoid color transfer.
- Mix one part white vinegar with one part water and apply to the stain.
- Avoid rubbing the fabric too vigorously. Rubbing too vigorously can make the stain worse and possibly wear away the fabric. Be gentle and methodical.
- Dab, rather than rub, working from the outside in to keep the stain contained.
- Allow the mixture to sit on the stain for about 10 minutes.
- Rinse with cold water.
- If the stain is still visible, repeat the process.
