How to Remove Coffee Stains

If you are like many of us, its inevitable.  Coffee spills seem to be a part of life; but coffee stains don’t need to be.  Let’s walk through some steps to assist in getting rid of unsightly coffee stains.

First, it is extremely important to treat the stain as soon as possible.  The less time that elapses, the more success you will have.  You’ll want to soak up or blot any excess coffee and rinse with cold water.  There are a couple of options for treating coffee stains.  Baking soda is often a first choice; however, table salt can be just as effective.  Whether you are using baking soda or table salt sprinkle on your stain and allow it to seep into your fabric.

When treating a coffee stain on clothing, always try to use a white cloth.  This helps avoid color transfer. Gently blot away and repeat if needed until the stain has been removed.   You can also rub a small amount of liquid dish soap and allow it to sit for about 5-10 minutes.  Avoid rubbing the fabric too vigorously.  Rubbing too vigorously can make the stain worse and possibly wear away the fabric.  Be gentle and methodical.  Dab, rather than rub, working from the outside in to keep the stain contained.  Rinse in cold water and wash as usual.  Do not dry your garment until  you have removed the stain entirely.  You got this!!!

When treating spots and stains, don’t forget to check your garment labels for any special care instructions.
